How to Properly Sanitize Your Removable Denture Appliance
It’s extremely important for you to take care of and clean your denture each and every day. If you do these things, there is a high chance your denture could last for many years to come. So, to help you keep your denture in tip-top shape, our Land Park Dental dental team encourages you to do the following things:
-Rinse the denture after eating: After you eat any type of food, it’s important that you rinse your appliance with water. Rinsing the denture will wash away the loose particles that cling to it. However, please remember to be careful as you rinse it. If you drop the appliance, it could easily break.
-Clean your mouth: If you have a clean mouth, you will have a clean denture. So, clean your mouth every night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. If you don’t have natural teeth remaining, skip the soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and clean your gums, tongue, cheeks, and palate with a soft toothbrush or with a gauze pad.
-Brush your denture daily: Brush your denture each day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste or denture cleaner. This will help remove the particles that stick to your appliance throughout the day.
-Soak the denture: It’s best to keep the appliance moist when it is not in your mouth, so do your best to keep it in a glass of water or a mild denture cleaner overnight. This will help keep the appliance in tip-top shape and it will also keep it from drying out.
